YouTube’s Favorite Canadians Blind Taste Test Coffee – Peter McKinnon & Unbox Therapy in UNBOXING COFFEE
Photography & Coffee Aficionado Peter McKinnon & World Renowned Box Opener Lewis Hilsenteger from Unbox Therapy talk coffee cup tech, never winning anything on Tim Horton’s Roll Up The Rim, coffee rituals, and blind taste test coffee in this charming new episode of “Two Minute” Tuesday on Peter’s Channel.
The Taste Test
Three coffees. Two Coffee Lovers. Can they tell which is which? Who will come out on top?
Starbucks, McDonald’s & Tim Horton’s, our hosts both agree, are valid choices when in a pinch. They both prefer the good ole Chemex for pour over coffee brewed at home, but the Coffee Overlords are good enough when you don’t have the time or the access to your quality home brewed coffee.
They split the three coffee’s up in unmarked coffee shots and test both the smell and the taste of all three before guessing which is which.
I won’t spoil the results, you’ll have to actually watch the video for that, but right from the get go they new what at least one of the coffee’s was.
Coffee Cup Tech
Lewis makes the case that McDonald’s has the most practical coffee cup. Tim Horton’s cup triggers the Nostalgia of Canadians, and Starbucks’ cup is iconic in it’s own right, but McDonald’s takes the cake on practicality. It’s double layered which means you don’t need a sleeve, the lid opening locks itself open and it’s just a higher quality cup.
Coffee’s A Ritual
The biggest advantage to brewing your coffee at home is the ritual. You get to grind up the coffee, get the water boiling, load up the filter, pour over the coffee, all while the beautiful aroma of the morning’s Joe is gracing your nose holes, perking you up in a way that only fresh ground coffee can.
Lewis compares making coffee to listening to music on Vinyl, claiming it’s not really about the vinyl it’s about the experience.
“[It’s about] the triggers along the way that start to indicate to your senses that a thing is about to happen”
We’re all just rats in cages craving that little dopamine hit that tells us a reward is coming. ENJOY STARBUCKS
What’s Your Favorite Overlord Coffee?
Make sure to check out both Peter & Lewis‘ Channels and let us know what your favorite “Overlord Coffee” is. I’ve recently been hooked on Starbucks’ White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino. Their hot White Chocolate Mocha is my usual go-to, but I didn’t realize it came in frappuccino form till I was in the Denver airport a couple weeks ago. The barista asked me if I wanted it “Hot, Iced, or Frapp” and I was just in autopilot mode and got my usual. I tried it for the first time a couple weeks ago and HO-LEE Shit it is delicious. Try it out sometime!
